Musicianship Classes
The musicianship classes are designed to enhance basic musical skills, such as: singing in tune; holding a steady pulse; listening and performing. They will also involve basic keyboard and music theory.
Large interactive resources (such as giant staves and keyboards), listening games, songs and puzzles will engage children with the joy of music-making through a range of fun activities. This clip will give you an idea of some of the activities we do....

Instrumental Lessons
The smaller group instrumental lessons teach the mastery of a musical instrument.
The Stage 2 'try out' lessons will give a basic introduction to each instrument: Recorder, Violin and Cello.
Once the student has chosen the instrument they wish to learn pupils will be paired up for Stage 3 and 4 lessons.
Fun and challenging exercises and pieces will be covered in each session, that will then be reinforced at home. Full instructions on what activities need to be done at home will be provided and parents will be asked to sit in on lessons, so that they understand how to support practice at home.

Next Steps...
If your child is really enjoying their learning and wishes to continue their musical journey at the Sheffield Music Academy, they will be able to audition at the end of Stage 4.

What if my child wants to play a different instrument?
The instruments VIOLIN, CELLO and RECORDER have been chosen as these, along with PIANO and VOICE, are the most suitable for the age range of the scheme.
These instruments are fantastic in their own right, but can also serve as stepping stones for transferring to other instruments when your child is a little older. Below is a list of how instruments in the scheme lead easily to others in later years.
Recorders: other woodwind instruments (oboe, clarinet, flute, bassoon) or brass instruments (trumpet, french horn, tuba, trombone)
Violin and Cello: other string instruments (double bass, viola) or brass instruments
